12th Street now closed to all but local traffic

Imperial residents will have to put some thought into how they need to approach businesses and homes along East 12th Street as of this week.
The street is closed from Broadway to Highway 61 to all but local traffic.
The street’s south lane is being milled off east to the newly-poured section along Chase County Schools’ land. Sixteen feet of the north side of the street will be unmilled, according to Public Works Superintendent Pat Davison.
That will allow homeowners to access their property, he noted.
After the south side of the street is complete, the north side will be milled and poured, he added.
Barriers have been erected at 12th and Broadway, on side streets entering 12th Street, and have been in place at 12th Street and Highway 61.
Davison said the contractor, Cement Products, has indicated that the intersection of 12th and Longhorn Streets may be open soon, allowing vehicles to drive from Longhorn Street out to Highway 61.
He said he doesn’t know how long the street will be closed, but it could be a month.
Access to businesses is available from side streets, Broadway, or Highway 61.
