Zero pay for mayor, council stays in budget for 2010-11

No changes were made in the direction that salaries for the Imperial mayor and four city council members next year remain at zero.
The council adopted the city’s 2010-11 budget, with a zero level salary for the five elected officials, following a Monday night public hearing, which drew little comment or discussion.
At a budget work session two weeks earlier, the five elected officials directed City Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland to strike any wages for them in the coming year’s budget.
The council and mayor had earlier discussed freezing the salaries of the city’s four department heads, which would have included Clerk/Administrator Jo Leyland, Public works Supt. Pat Davison, Police Chief Larry Browning and Community Development Director Leslie Carlholm.
In the library’s proposed budget figures, there had been no increase in the salary for Library Director Beth Falla either.
However, at the budget work session, there was some hesitation with that move since all of the other city employees were slated to get an average of 3 percent pay increases.
That’s when council member Lynn Luhrs suggested dropping their salaries instead.
