Chase County Schools’ proposed budget for 2010-11 reflects some of the board’s concern about the upkeep of the school building and its facilities.
That’s according to Supt. Matt Fisher, who noted the coming year’s proposed budget of $9,545,000 includes funds designed for more roof repair and, by combining some other school funds, possibly track repairs, as well.
The board will act on the proposed budget at Tuesday’s regular meeting. The budget hearing starts at 6 p.m.
Patrons of the school district have the opportunity to comment during the budget hearing, set aside as a special part of the meeting.
“It reflects some of our capital outlay needs and that we are addressing some of those needs,” Fisher said of the budget.
Paramount among those needs is a leaking roof, some of which was repaired this summer. Those repairs were covered by insurance.
Another section of the roof, on the northwest, is targeted for repair this coming year. Estimates indicated that will cost between $200,000 and $250,000.
“We still think of this as a new building, but it’s 20 years old,” Fisher noted.
