Fair completes another successful run

Judging by the crowds on the fairgrounds throughout the week, especially Friday and Saturday night, the Chase County Fair looked like the place to be last week.
Looking back on the week, fair board members felt the event lived up to its tradition as the premier county fair in outstate Nebraska.
Fair board member Dan Kunnemann felt it was “one of our best fairs overall.”
The fair also celebrated its 125th anniversary this year.
Kunnemann said attendance at this year’s fair appeared to be strong all week.
A crowd of about 1,000 attended the Christian Family Show Wednesday night. A packed house for the demolition followed that up Thursday night.
Attendance for the Friday and Saturday grandstand shows exceeded 60 percent of capacity, or about 2,200 for each show.
However, those figures fell short of those anticipated by the fair board.
Kunnemann, who also heads up the entertainment, said they had good walk-up traffic each night, which helped numbers significantly.
However, attendance still fell short of covering entertainment expenses.
Kunnemann said revenue from the carnival, beer sales and a pair of concert sponsors will help bridge that gap.
