It’s the last week of summer vacation for students at Chase County Schools.
School bells will ring next Wednesday, Aug. 25, calling K-12 students back to classes. School Supt. Matt Fisher said a full day of classes will be held on opening day.
Students in K-6 will be in off the playground and expected to be lined up to go to the classrooms by about 8:05 a.m. each day, Fisher said.
Students in 7-12 will be in their first classes of the day when the final 8:14 a.m. bell sounds.
Enrollment is expected to be up for the 2010-11 year, Fisher said.
That’s largely due to one of the smallest graduating senior classes on record in 2010 with just 27 seniors.
That compares to another large incoming kindergarten class of 50.
“So we are anticipating that we’ll be up a net 20 students or so,” Fisher said, also figuring in the other “ins and outs” among the enrollment.
CCS will continue to provide both morning and afternoon in-town bus pickup and dropoff service for students. Morning pickups will be at the same times and locations as last year, Fisher noted, but may be adjusted once school gets underway.
The seven rural bus routes will run about the same, with some shuffling of the route in the southwest part of the county. The school will eliminate the morning van route in that part of the county, Fisher said.
East 9th Street work
Work is continuing this week on the replacement of East 9th St., which may pose some access problems at school next week.
Another two inches of rain the past week may be slowing the progress, too.
Fisher said if the circle drive is not open yet next week, parents can drop students off at the east cafeteria doors by entering the parking lot off Longhorn St.
Or, elementary students can also be dropped off west of the circle drive on the north side of East 9th St., near the playground area.
Busses will probably be dropping off students at the east doors if the drive is not yet open, Fisher said.
