The Chase County Fair’s “Buy in July” promotion gave a big boost to ticket sales for the Friday and Saturday night grandstand shows.
The promo, which ended Sunday, gave a $10 per-ticket discount for buying 10 or more tickets and $5 off for all other ticket purchases for the shows.
Ticket co-chair Larry Munger said it was a pretty busy week before the deadline.
“Sales took a nice jump last week,” Munger said.
As of Tuesday this week, Friday’s Creedence Clearwater Revisited show on Friday, Aug. 20, leads the sales with roughly 35% tickets sold. That show will be followed by the Kahuna Beach Party dance in the grandstand area.
The Rodney Atkins show on Saturday, Aug. 21, isn’t far behind, however, with about 31% tickets sold, Munger said.
Overall, tickets sales are about par with what’s normal two weeks before the fair, Munger noted.
Since the fair board first instituted the standing-room only area right in front of the stage for the 2008 fair, Munger said walk-up sales have been increasing each year. Those are the sales made just before the shows when people “walk up” to buy, versus buying tickets weeks before the show.
However, the seated tickets in the grandstand may be a little ahead of normal.
“I think the grandstand may be as full as it’s ever been at this point,” he said.
Munger is also seeing more and more online ticket sales each year. The ticket office now sells twice as many tickets on line as they do on the phone and by mail.
“Initially we only sold about 15% of the tickets online,” he said.
More and more local residents, those from Chase County, are also buying their show tickets online, he said.
Ticket office moving to
fairgrounds on Monday
Munger said the fair ticket office will move to the fairgrounds on Monday, Aug. 9, where it will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. all next week, Aug. 9-13.
Hours on Aug. 16-17 will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., then the hours increase as the fair’s night activity does Aug. 18-21.
In addition to the grandstand show tickets, the fair ticket office also sells the carnival’s mega ride pass and tickets for the Aug. 19 demolition derby and Aug. 21 barbecue.
