It’s been a year of unusually heavy rainfall, with nearly 10 inches of moisture recorded  in Imperial since the first of June.
But Tim May, who owns Frenchman Valley Produce at the southeast edge of town, believes Mother Nature isn’t the only one responsible for a buildup of water near his business.
Bringing an attorney with him to Monday’s city council meeting, May said the city has some responsibility for the drainage that’s contributed to a huge collection pond east of his business.
Attorney Randy Fair of Ogallala said there are 14 acres underwater, east of May’s business along Highway 6/61.
He said the city has some “duty of care,” and May’s damage there is already significant. Two drainage ponds May put in on his property are full.
