Hospital district question could be on November ballot

In May, Chase County voters voted to create a hospital district. In November, they could be voting to reverse that action.
During a special joint meeting of the county commissioners and hospital board last week, legal counsel for both the county and hospital outlined the hospital district process.
They also provided the boards with “what-ifs” when a new district is formed to run the hospital.
About 50 people were in attendance at the June 22 meeting held at the courthouse.
Martie Ross, a Kansas lawyer who specializes in health care issues, said the biggest obstacle would be retaining the hospital’s critical access designation (CAD).
