Work at Enders Dam will be wrapping up in the coming days as contractors finish recoating the interior of the dam’s outlet pipe.
St. Louis-based Hartman Walsh Painting Co. was awarded the project by the Bureau of Reclamation. Their crew of painters and blasters began work on the seven-foot diameter steel conduit on May 10.
“The old coating was coming off in large pieces,” said Carl Koenig, Civil Engineer for the Nebraska-Kansas Area Bureau of Reclamation. “We knew it was no longer protecting the steel underneath the coating.”
The outlet pipe recoating process includes several phases. After spending a few days setting up equipment, the crew began blasting the interior of the pipe with 37,000 psi pressure water.
