Community raises additional $3,567 for Rotary ShelterBoxes in Haiti PDF Print E-mail

Rotary President David Kahle was touched by the overwhelming positive response from the community when going to businesses to see if others were interested in supporting the Rotary ShelterBox program to send needed shelter to Haiti.
The local Rotary club had already donated one of the $1,000 ShelterBox which provides a 10-person tent, blankets, ground cover, a cooking stove, pots, pans utensils, a water purification system, a fun kit for children, shovels, picks, saws, writing papers, pencils and measuring devices.
Others expressed interest in helping in the project so Kahle shared information. As of Tuesday’s meeting, the community has pitched in another $3,567 toward more ShelterBoxes and more funds were expected.
At this week’s meeting, Derek Russell from Frenchman Valley Coop presented an envelope of $560 in donations collected from individual Coop employees in Imperial. Annette Forden then gave a check from the company matching the $540 collected prior to the last $20 donation.
Kahle provided reports of how impressive the distribution of the shelters has been with women, children and the injured taking priority. The tent cities are set up in a controlled environment to keep living conditions as sanitary as possible.
Any additional funds for the project will be accepted by Imperial Rotary Club, PO Box 472, Imperial NE 69033.
