The Chase County Longhorns were a little short-handed Saturday when they traveled to Lexington. Only five wrestlers competed in the varsity division and one in junior varsity.
Lexington has proven to be one of, if not the toughest tournaments of the season. Despite the small number of wrestlers, Chase County was able to bring home two medals.
In the 215 pound division, Tyler Roenfeldt brought home a fifth place finish with a record of 3-2 on the day. After losing his first match, Roenfeldt bounced back and won the next two.
Then after losing in his fourth match of the day, Roenfeldt decisioned Robert Krapfl of Lincoln Southwest 8-0 to win the fifth place medal.
At 285 pounds, Nathan Hinojosa brought home the sixth place medal. Hinojosa also lost his first match dropping him into the consolation bracket. After receiving a bye and pinning Ross Stewart of McCook, Hinojosa lost his next two matches to finish the day with a 1-3 record.
Keithan Cochran had a win and two losses on the day. Misael Garcia and Trevor Fuehrer both finished the day at 0-2.
In the junior varsity division of the tournament, Makayla Bell competed in the 112 pound division. Bell finished her day at 0-2.
Chase County finished in 14th place. Considering the fact that there were no other class C schools and a lot of class A schools and Chase County only had five wrestlers, the finish came as no surprise.
Team scores were: 1st Kearney 246, Scott City, Kan. 172, Holyoke, Colo. 118, Schuyler Central 117.5, Lincoln Southwest 114.5, Beatrice 103.5,Cozad 98, Millard West 96,McCook 83.5, North Platte 69, Sidney 68, Hastings 50, Lexington 41 and Chase County 21.5.
