When people donate memorial money to the Lied Imperial Public Library, there are hundreds of readers who owe them their thanks.
Library Director Beth Falla said they rely on the funds given in memory of a loved one, relative or friend who has died.
“It helps out a lot to support our book budget,” Falla said.
Not counting the donations of the book itself to the library, Falla said about $700 was donated to the library in 2008 for memorial book purchases.
If the donor requests a specific book be purchased with their donation, or specify a genre, the money will be used for that.
If the money is donated with no specific requests, the staff will select a book/books on a subject the deceased may have liked. If they didn’t know the person well, they may decide to purchase a book based on interests of the person or relative with ties here.
Falla said now that the fundraising is done for the library’s remodeling and addition, which was dedicated in 2006, their donations for memorial books are back up to its previous levels.
The library also receives memorial donations that are requested to be used to purchase equipment or furniture.
