The Imperial Zion Lutheran Church English Hand Bell Choir will be in Council Bluffs, Iowa, later this month for an evening concert.
They will perform at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where former Imperial resident Dr. J. Gordon Christensen now serves as Director of Music.
The 14-member bell choir, under the director of Joel Grosbach, will be given a 7 p.m. CT concert on Saturday, Jan. 23, which will be followed by a public reception hosted by St. Paul’s fellowship committee.
On Sunday, Jan. 24, the bell choir will also play for both worship services at the church before returning home.
The Zion Lutheran Church Bell Choir formed in 1998. Since its founding, it has contributed to the worship music at the church, and has also played for various community and civic functions in the area.
In has also played for Nebraska District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod functions, including two statewide Lutheran Hour rallies.
Other events included ringing festivals in Colorado Springs and the hosting of the Pike’s Peak Ringers for a Nebraska concert.
Members of the bell choir include Doreen Mohr, Laura Gaschler, Deborah Schilke, Linda Moser, Sue Irey, Beth Falla, Merinda Kahle, Marisa Kunnemann, Jean Farrer, Rhonda Smith, Mary Haarberg, Stan Hofman, Mark Gaschler and Neva Molzer.
Grosbach, the bell choir’s director, serves as director of choirs at Zion Lutheran Church in addition to organist responsiblities. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from McPherson College, with a music minor.
Prior to their concert in Iowa, the Zion Lutheran Church Bell Choir will play at an informal concert at the church on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited.
