Corn harvest into the home stretch PDF Print E-mail

The end is in sight for this year’s corn harvest. This year will go down as one of the latest harvests since the 1960s as weather conditions prolonged the drying process. In addition, both rain and snow fell during the harvest season, stretching it out even further. While the corn wasn’t as dry as farmers would have liked, many made the decision to pick anyway. Estimates put the harvest at 80-90 percent complete. Harvest on the sandier ground in the area has been complete for a week or better. Farmers with heavier ground were forced to wait while conditions dried out to allow them into the fields. That represents most of the corn left to pick. On Tuesday, seed representatives Kelly Clevenger and Mike Nelson were weighing out the corn on their final test plot on ground west of Imperial. (Republican photos)
