Hospital Foundation supports cancer survivor painting therapy class PDF Print E-mail

Cancer patients and survivors from the area can now find help with the healing effects and joyful results of creating art.
Marcia Bauerle of Imperial, a certified art educator with over 35 years of art experience, will lead the course which will be held at the United Methodist Church in Imperial.
The purpose of the class is to provide a free, creative outlet, as well as social connections to help victims cope with the emotional trauma and social stigma of oncology treatment. Good feelings are the top priority.
Any level of artistic experience is welcome. Cancer patients and survivors can come every week, or just whenever they can, depending on how well they feel, and what their schedules allow.
The painting group will meet on Tuesdays in November at 11am, with plans to move to Thursdays starting in December. However, the time is still somewhat flexible, dependant on participant’s needs, she said.
Based on the model of a similar workshop offered in North Platte by Sandy Meyer, the Chase County Hospital Foundation will provide paint, brushes and supplies for cancer patients and survivors.
Family members or caregivers of cancer survivors may also take part if space is available and will need to provide their own art supplies. The Methodist Church will provide physical facilities, and prayerful support.
Bauerle will volunteer her time and artistic expertise.
Beginning projects will use acrylic (water-based) paints, and focus on exploring the medium and practicing brush control.
Experienced painters can follow the class, or bring any supplies and projects they wish.
