FFA qualifies first team for 2010 state PDF Print E-mail

Following the first district competition of the FFA season, Imperial has qualified a team for the April, 2010 state convention ag education contests. Imperial’s junior livestock judging team, above, took second overall among nearly 55 junior teams in the Oct. 14 district contest in Curtis. The runner-up Imperial team includes, from left, Steven Fish, Spencer Hartman, Perry Vetter and Michaela Ketter. Of those four, Hartman was the first place individual competitor among more than 300 FFA members in the junior division. The rest of the Imperial team received red ribbons. Imperial FFA also had a senior team in the contest including April Bernard, Jackie Smith, Joel Fisher and Daniel Hogsett. Two others competed as individuals in the junior division, Shandra Johnson and Jordan Gibb. Coach Jason Speck said the contest involved judging eight different classes of sheep, beef and swine. Juniors also had to answer 10 questions and give one set of reasons for their placings in one of the beef classes. Next up in district competition for the Imperial FFA teams is Dec. 9 when they will be competing in the leadership skills area at Curtis, including parliamentary procedure and speeches.
