One of four area Cattleman’s Days will be in Imperial PDF Print E-mail

Extension educators have planned Cattleman’s Day and Trade Show events for four area communities in November.
They start Nov. 16 in North Platte at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds and continue Tuesday, Nov. 17 in Ogallala at Grey Goose; Monday, Nov. 23, in McCook at Red Willow County Fairgrounds; and Tuesday, Nov. 24, in Imperial at Zion Lutheran Church.
Each session will start with registration at 8:30 a.m. local time.
After a 9 a.m. keynote on “The Future of Food Safety: How it Affects Cattle Producers” with Drew Gaffney, attendees will select from two topics during two rotations.
Rotation One includes:
• “Calving Date Economics”— Brian Strauch, Extension Educator, Red Willow County.
• “Livestock Gross Margin and Livestock Risk Protection”—Robert Tigner, Extension Educator, Chase, Dundy, Hayes and Hitchcock Counties.
Rotation Two:
• “McCOOL and Source and Age Verification Programs”—Noel Muel, Extension Educator, Furnas County.
• “How Size Affects Heifer Development”—Randy Saner, Extension Educator, Lincoln and McPherson Counties.
Luncheon speaker, Matt Spangler, UNL Beef Genetics Specialist, will discuss “Utilizing Genomic Information in Selection.”
After lunch, two more rotations will provide participants with more choices.
Rotation Three:
• “The Value of Corn Stalks Versus Range”—Aaron Stalker, UNL Beef Range Systems Specialist.
• “Ranch Profitability: What Are the Choices?—Doug Anderson, Extension Educator, Keith and Perkins Counties.
Rotation Four:
• “Windrow Grazing”—Jerry Volesky, UNL Forage and Range Management Specialist.
• “Benefits of and Tips to Achieve a Short Calving Season”—Rick Funston.
Breaks throughout the day will allow for visits to the trade show. Door prizes will also be awarded.
Cost to attend is $20 for the first registrant from a farm or ranch and $10 for each additional person from the same operation if registered by Nov. 16 for the Imperial Cattleman’s Day.
Cost will be $30 at the door.
