State-of-art digital mammography installed at hospital PDF Print E-mail

One out of eight women will develop breast cancer some time during her life—this means one new diagnosis every two minutes.
Digital mammography is one of the best ways to detect the disease. To make mammograms as accurate and comfortable as possible, Chase County Community Hospital has installed the Siemens MAMMOMAT® NovationDR digital mammography system.
A National Cancer Institute study showed that digital mammography detects up to 28 percent more cancers than traditional mammography for women under the age of 50 or with dense breasts.
Like images on a digital camera, digital mammograms allow physicians to view exams on a computer screen and manipulate image characteristics such as magnification, orientation, brightness and contrast, which improve the ability to view specific areas of the breast.
“Women in our community can now receive advanced breast care right here in Imperial and avoid driving hundreds of miles for this service,” said Lola Jones, CEO of Chase County Community Hospital.
“Our new digital mammography system benefits patients as well as area physicians, with comfortable, professional care from our expert technicians,” she said.
With the new digital mammography system, highly detailed results are produced more quickly, helping to decrease both anxiety and discomfort for women, while also reducing radiation exposure. The advanced technology of the digital system provides greater clinical detail, which results in exceptional diagnostic accuracy.
The Novation system was installed on Sept. 11 and digital mammogram appointments will be available beginning in early October. To schedule an exam, patients can call 308-882-7240.
