Chad and Amber Yaw of Imperial and their family are packing their bags in anticipation of the Step Up for Down Syndrome walk in Denver this weekend. At the same time, the pledges for “Bodie’s Bunch” continue to come in.
The Yaws are participating in the Mile High Down Syndrome Association’s walk around the Denver Zoo on Saturday as a way to support the organization. MHDSA has supported them, they note, as son Bodie, who will be nine months in a few days, has Down Syndrome.
As of last Friday, there were 24 members of Bodie’s Bunch, with $1,810 raised for the MHDSA.
A story run in this newspaper a few weeks ago brought a number of pledges, Amber Yaw said.
“We’re overwhelmed with kindness from people lately who read the article and didn’t know Bodie had problems,” she said.
“We are supported and blessed to live in a small community.”
The Yaws, with Bodie, Remington, 5, and Jecca, 3, will walk the course, along with some other family members.
To walk, to register as a virtual walker, or to make a donation, visit the MHDSA website at StepUpDenver.org and look for Bodie’s Bunch under “find team.”
