Fall sports get underway this week for Chase County high school cross country, volleyball and football teams.
With that in mind, the CCS cheerleaders and Longhorn Booster Club are working together to put on a pep rally and barbecue tonight (Thursday) to kick off the fall sports season.
The barbecue will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the south school parking lot followed by the pep rally at 7:30.
All fans are invited, and Longhorn Booster members wearing their Booster badges will eat free. Business owners and individuals still wishing to sign up as a Longhorn Booster can do so that evening.
There are various levels of support in becoming a Longhorn Booster, all of whom will be eligible for drawings that night for all-season passes and a Longhorn winter coat.
Former Booster Club members should wear their Booster badges Thursday night. Replacement badges will be available.
Support from the Booster Club provides drinks and snacks for athletes throughout the year, two senior athlete scholarships and purchase of needed equipment or technology that coaches request.
At 7:30 p.m., the cheerleaders will start the pep rally at the football field, and fans will be invited to sit in the bleachers. Cheerleading Sponsor Lorain Vires said there will be several cheers, and fun and games for all.
Senior athletes will also be introduced and receive their yard signs.
