The 6th annual Chase County Corvette Classic just continues to grow. Held during the fair on Saturday, Aug. 15, more than 200 cars registered for the show.
The event is sponsored by Harchelroad Motors, Inc., and they officially registered 215 cars in the show.
Organizer Sid Harchelroad said they ran out of display space along Wellington Street, forcing the spillover of another 30-40 Corvettes along adjoining streets.
The highlight of this year’s show came in the form of a 1953 Corvette convertible restored to original condition.
The car, owned by Joel and Lynette Janssen of Papillion, won the Dealer’s Choice award in the show, one of the top prizes awarded.
There were less than 250 of the Corvettes made in 1953.
Janssen said he bought the car after the engine had caught fire and damaged a significant portion of the front of the car.
He said it took him eight years to fully restore the beauty back to original condition. Since its restoration, the car has had only 56 miles put on it.
Janssen also displayed two other Corvettes at the show and said he owns more than 40 collectibles.
The Looking Glass Corvette Association from the front range of Colorado won the show’s Governor’s Cup for bringing the most cars—43.
In addition to the Corvettes, six new Camaros were also on display.
Trophies for cars in six different divisions were awarded, including one for stock and one for modified. Divisions are determined by the model year of the car.
The C1 division covers years 1953-1962; C2—1963-1967; C3—1968-1982; C4—1984–1996; C5—1997-2004;  C6—2005-present.
