Water is one of Nebraska's most precious resources. The state depends on it for domestic, municipal, agricultural and industrial uses.
But what do we know about this resource? What is its true value? What is the price of water?
"The Price of Water," a new documentary produced by Nebraska Educational Telecommunications (NET), will address these and other issues, and stimulate thought and discussion about water in Nebraska, its conservation and management and its role in the lives of all Nebraskans.
The public is invited to attend an event held in conjunction with the broadcast premiere of "The Price of Water," hosted by the University of Nebraska–Lincoln at its West Central Research and Extension Center auditorium south of North Platte on west State Farm Road, on Wednesday, June 13, at 7 p.m. The broadcast will be followed by discussion and conversation about the issues covered in the program.
In addition to a premiere viewing of this documentary, UNL will provide displays on irrigation technologies that help to conserve water and a question-and-answer session with Hydrogeologist Jim Goeke and West Central's Irrigation Engineer Simon van Donk.
Refreshments will be served. The program is free and open to the public.
"The Price of Water" will provide viewers information about Nebraska's groundwater, surface water, quality, quantity and the future of the state's water resources. Experts featured in the program include Jim Goeke, Hydrogeologist, University of Nebraska Conservation and Survey Division; Ann Bleed, Director, Nebraska Department of Natural Resources; Bob Kuzelka, Associate Professor Emeritus, University of Nebraska Environmental Studies Program; and John Lawson, area manager, Bureau of Reclamation; and others.
"The Price of Water" is made possible by funding from the Nebraska Environmental Trust.
