NRD considering building site at county fairgrounds

Chase County commissioners will refer a request for a new NRD building near the fair grounds to the fair board.
Jasper Fanning, manager of the Upper Republican Natural Resource District, met with commissioners at their regular meeting Tuesday to discuss a possible building site.
The NRD board has been exploring a building project for some time and has more than $300,000 in a building fund.
Fanning asked the commissioners about siting the building on the southeast corner of the fairgrounds, on approximately 1.5 acres of ground.
Commissioners told Fanning the fair board has jurisdiction over that property and that they could not take any action without input from the fair board.
Fanning said their board has not yet taken any action approving the project but they wanted to check on site availability.
Commissioner Don Weiss said he would consult with the fair board as well as marking off the possible site for their consideration.
The NRD's plans call for new office and shop space to accommodate their operation. Present plans call for a minimum lot size of 198 feet by 218 feet.
NRD board members discussed the building project during their regular meeting Tuesday night. Follow-up of that meeting will appear next week.
