Three vying for subdistrict 5 NRD seat

     One of the runoffs that will occur during next Tuesday's primary election will be for the subdistrict 5 seat on the Upper Republican Natural Resources District board.
     Tom Gaschler of Imperial is the incumbent after initially being appointed to the position following the resignation of Kenny Owens.

FFA members' achievements recognized Saturday night

     New officers were announced and awards handed out to members of the Chase County FFA chapter Saturday night.
     It was a bittersweet occasion for the seniors, who were handing over responsibility to younger students. Outgoing President Jordon Stromberger, in her address to a crowd of about 160, noted the support and indeed, the example, her family and especially older brothers, had set for her in her FFA career.

Ryan Richmond named First State Bank president

     In June, 2003, Grant native Ryan Richmond returned to southwest Nebraska and went to work as a loan officer for former First State Bank president, Dick Falldorf.
     Now, Richmond will succeed his mentor and friend as the new president at First State Bank in Imperial.

     All businesses will transfer at some stage of its life cycle, but only one out of three businesses have a written strategic plan for business succession and the majority of companies have no plan of any kind for continuing their business to the next generation.

Water tour to visit Republican River Basin sites in Kansas, Nebraska

    An early June water and natural resources tour will visit the Lower Republican River Basin in Kansas and Nebraska to help answer water use questions.
     The annual University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce water and natural resources tour is June 3-5, beginning and ending on UNL's East Campus.
     "With Kansas once again threatening Nebraska with alleged non-compliance issues under the three-state Republican River compact, it will be a very opportune time for the tour to visit the basin," said tour co-organizer Michael Jess, associate director of UNL's Water Center.
