Golfers fifth at Creek Valley invite
District meet set for next week at North Platte C.C.
By Russ Pankonin The Imperial Republican The Longhorn golfers shot a team total of 350 to finish fifth in the team standings at the Creek Valley invite at Chappell April 29. Junior Matt Hayes led the team with an 82 on rounds of 40-42. Hayes finished just out of the medals, losing a three-way playoff for two 9-10th place medals.

Longhorn tracksters pick up six medals at Best of Midwest
By Jan Schultz The Imperial Republican Chase County track team members matched up well with some of the top athletes in the southwest and south central areas of Nebraska last week. Longhorn athletes brought home a combined six medals in the boys' and girls' events at the annual Best of the Midwest track meet in Sutherland April 29.

Chase County headed to a Class C district this year
By Jan Schultz The Imperial Republican For the first time since the 2001 season, Chase County track teams will be competing in a Class C district meet this year. Hershey and its new track is hosting the C-10 district meet today (Thursday), of which Chase County is a part. The meet opens with the first session of field events at 9 a.m. (MT). The first running events start at 10:30 a.m. (MT).

Spickelmier wins all-around title at Hyannis rodeo
By Russ Pankonin The Imperial Republican Imperial senior Miles Spickelmier came home from the Hyannis high school rodeo Saturday with the boys' all-around title. Spickelmier earned the honor with one first place finish, a second and a fifth. He and his team-roping partner, Jake Kraupie of Bridgeport, turned in the fastest time in that event with an 8.4-second effort.

Four qualify for state in Jaycees' Pitch, Hit and Run Contest
By Jan Schultz The Imperial Republican Youths turned out Monday night to compete in the Imperial Jaycees-sponsored Pitch, Hit and Run Contest at Schroeder Park. The contest was originally scheduled for last Friday, but had to be postponed due to the poor weather conditions. Youths in four age categories, hit the ball off a tee for distance, pitched from 45 feet away at a strike zone target and completed 160 feet of base-running for time. A total point tally was determined after adding points from the three individual testing areas to determine first, second and third place trophy winners.
