‘Aladdin’ takes to stage twice this Saturday

Weeks of work and rehearsals will come to fruition this Saturday when high school chorus and show choir students stage “Disney Aladdin Jr.”
The Chase County Schools production will provide the public two chances on Saturday to see the musical, at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium.
The musical is a condensed version of the 1992 Disney animated film, which was based on the Arab-style folktale of the same name from “One Thousand and One Nights.”
Director Randy Hayes said they will be using a different process for their stage sets for “Aladdin.”
In the interest of using fewer sets, Hayes purchased the license to use professionally prepared backdrop scenes for the CCS production, which will lead the audience through the various settings of the show. With the help of the school’s Director of Technology Shane Gerhartz and a “short throw” projector, this is a new idea used in the CCS production, Hayes said.
Community volunteers are also helping with the show, he added.
A costume committee of Annie Pursley, Terry Yost and Cathy Howard has sewn and assembled a colorful set of costumes for the production.
“Many hours of labor have been put into sewing the costumes,” Hayes said.
